Jamey Johnson’s 8th Annual Homecoming Weekend Raises $514,000 to Fight Pancreatic Cancer and Help Montgomery Children
Jamey Johnson’s 8th Annual Homecoming Concert raised a record-setting $514,000 for the Nikki Mitchell Foundation and the Marines Toys for Tots program.
The sold-out event, which attracted nearly 5,600 music lovers, was so successful that the concert had to be moved from the Cottonwood Golf Course, the site of the annual Homecoming Golf tournament, to the Montgomery Biscuits stadium to accommodate the large crowd . The Biscuits organization donated 10 percent of its proceeds to the foundation.
“Way to go, Montgomery! I want to thank the people who came to our concert for supporting the Nikki Mitchell Foundation and the Marines Toys for Tots program,” Johnson says of his hometown. “It’s all going to one of the greatest causes I know: fighting pancreatic cancer and helping those who are suffering.
“I also want to thank our sponsors for all of the donations they made to the golf tournament and the concert.”
This is the sixth year that the Nikki Mitchell Foundation has been a part of the Homecoming Weekend, bringing the total raised to $1.3 million to help those battling pancreatic cancer. This year’s total was about a 22 percent increase over the $421,000 that was raised in 2018.
In addition to Johnson, performers included Toby Keith and Scotty Emerick, Kid Rock, Randy Houser, Lee Brice, Jerrod Niemann, Dennis Quaid, Ron White, Sweet Lizzy Project, Whatley & Co., Chris Hennessee and Brandon Elder. Professional golfer John Daly was among the event’s most popular and generous celebrities and clearly enjoyed his time with his onstage seat throughout the performances.
“The Homecoming Benefit has continued to grow and moving the concert to the Riverwalk "Biscuit" Stadium was a leap of faith for the Nikki Mitchell Foundation, says Rhonda Miles, president of the Nikki Mitchell Foundation. “But we are very pleased that Montgomery embraced our event and welcomed us with open arms. We really look forward to working with the local Montgomery area and making this the ‘can’t miss’ benefit concert. With these funds, our pancreatic cancer patients will be receiving another year of assistance and NMF will be working closely with the research that will potentially find a cure for this horrific disease.”
